Surface
Small surfaces on doors and furniture, footledges and panels, not advisable on large areas because this technique requires even pressure and very even straight lines. The surface has to be oil-free, dry and even.

What you need

Paint:
Emulsion paint or latex paint for the walls, acrylic glaze for wooden surfaces, in each case use a basis-colour tone and then another tone for the special-effects.

For the basis-colour tone:
Use the mako wall roller or mako glaze roller or the mako glaze brush.

For the wood graining design:
Use the mako wood graining tool - maserboy

How to do it the right way

This technique requires a very even hand and careful work, so we recommend that you practise first on a piece of paper or cardboard before you beginn.

1. Paint the wall evenly with the basis-colour tone using the mako roller or the mako brush and let it dry well.

2. Apply the wood graining paint in small rows. Apply the paint only to relatively small portions of the whole surface! Treat the painted rows with the mako wood graining tool – maserboy, before the paint dries as follows:
Press the maserboy firmly onto the surface, then drag it along without lifting it from top to bottom, making even rows across the whole surface. The mako maserboy has to be wiped off after each completed row. We advise you to use either acrylic glaze or varnish to protect your wooden surfaces. But do not forget to let the painted surface dry for at least 24 h before starting.

You can achieve many different effects with the mako maserboy:

You can achieve a wide graining if you drag the maserboy straight down the surface.

By moving your wrist back and forth you can achieve a knot effect

If you turn up your hand slightly while dragging the maserboy you can achieve the so-called heart pattern.

The lines within the pattern can be accentuated by using the back of the comb.
